Jonquil O'Reilly will be giving a lecture about Renaissance Fashion
A specialist in Old Master Paintings at Sotheby’s, Jonquil O’Reilly has a passion for period fashion and writes on the subject for Sotheby’s Magazine and Harper’s Bazaar. She uses clothing and textiles as a means of enhancing the understanding of paintings and contextualizes portrait sitters by the garments that they wear, be it the ruff, the powdered wig, or, indeed, the codpiece.
Jonquil began her career at Sotheby’s London before moving to New York in 2011 to become a specialist, focusing on Italian paintings. She has lectured on historical dress at public and private events in London and New York and at the Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto.
